“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson, 1992
I recently “graduated”. The quotation marks are because it was just the ceremony for me and my classmates. While some were done with classes and could really look leave the venue feeling they completed the end of season, I still have class until August. So for me, I know that I still have assignments due and classes to attend (insert side eye emoji).
During all the celebration, I had the honor of speaking at a specific nursing celebration called Oath and Honors. While speaking to my colleagues and their families, I recited the aspiring words above of Marianne Williamson. It spoke so much to where I am personally in life, that I desperately wanted to share that; I knew it would touch other people.
As graduation came and went in a flash, I prepared to step out of one decade into another. I began to do what most people do around their birthday- take account of their life and see if they are making any progress or drown their lack thereof with sugary drinks at dinner. I began to think of all the goals and ideas I had pondered and journal about throughout the past 5 years and realized I had made no real headway towards making them a reality. After some pity ice cream, I made the decision that it was time for MAJOR change. I began looking into DSLR cameras for finally shooting videos. The GoDaddy website and I began to meet everyday to discuss my options. I finally began making moves in the right direction, and that excites me. I hope you will stick around to watch the growth and begin your own journey alongside mine. We can live our best lives together.
A friend that inspires me at least once a week with the way she lives her life shared her FAVORITE quote with me. I have adapted it as my own and it motivates me daily. Read it. Internalize it. Live it!
“Everything you want should be yours: the type of work you want; the relationships you need; the social, mental, and aesthetic stimulation that will make you happy and fulfilled; the money you require for the lifestyle that is appropriate to you; and any requirement that you may (or may not) have for achievement or service to others. If you don’t aim for it all, you’ll never get it all. To aim for it requires that you know what you want.” – Richard Koch
