The holidays can bring frequent travel. Packing, unpacking, and repacking can seem like all you’ve done the last two months. I know when I travel, I miss simple things like the natural sunlight that shines through my windows. I don’t realize how much I miss waking up in my own bed. It can surely feel like a treat. With all the time away, you may feel the need to get reacquainted with your home. Here are five tips I use to get back in the groove of being home and falling back in love with my place.
1. Open the windows and the blinds.
I go into every room and open up my blinds to let in that sunshine and open the windows to let in some fresh air. Sunlight is a mood changer. Breathe in that fresh, crisp air and breathe out the BS! Look at your home with a fresh new set of eyes. Now if you happen to live in a colder climate, opening the windows may not happen until April. At least let some of that natural glare off the ice in. It’ll brighten the mood.

2. Clean it up!
There are a few people who leave their house clean prior to traveling…I am not one of them. Clothes on the bed, toiletries on the counter, accessories and gadgets all over the place. My house usually needs a nice, thorough cleaning after some back-to-back travel. Your house deserves some TLC. So break out the cleaning supplies, it’s time to get domestic.

3. Remember home cooked meals?
Yeah, me neither. Bet the refrigerator is looking pretty pitiful. I don’t buy large amounts of food if I’m going to be traveling for a long period of time. I don’t want the fresh food to go bad. So after traveling, my cabinets and refrigerator need restocking. Throw some comfy clothes and top knot that hair. Don’t forget those reusable bags. Time to feed your body a nice home cooked meal.

4. Happy hour, anyone?
9am? Mimosa. Lunch time? Margarita or sangria. Dinner time? Whiskey sour. Whatever time, it’s time to pour it up! You’ll be able home anyway, rekindling the fire that once burned for you and your house. This tip will only make the last tip more fun 😉

5. Dance party!
Throw on some of your favorite jams and dance like no one is watching! I love to dance around my house while I’m cooking and cleaning. I get to act silly, burn calories as I take them in via whatever cold beverage I choose at the moment, and work up an appetite for that delish meal I’m preparing for myself.

Now take a nice shower or bath. Grab your food and cool, refreshing drink. Sit in your favorite place to binge watch the shows you may have missed while earning miles in the sky. I guarantee you’ll want to stay home and bum it…at least until your next planned trip!
